Birtwistles shows hunger for talent with new apprentice scheme

At Birtwistles we take great pride in the way we consistently nurture young talent and help the butchers of the future achieve their potential. This is especially important in the current economic climate with recent reports showing that 8 out of 10 UK businesses are suffering due to a lack of skilled workers.

As a proactive business, Birtwistles has taken steps to address this issue and highlight careers in Butchery by developing a partnership with Blackpool College. This partnership aims to take 5 of our Apprentices on a 14-month journey, working through their monthly modules and ultimately completing their Apprenticeship. They will gain a Level 2 FDQ Diploma in Meat and Poultry Industry Skills, which will help set them up for a successful future career as a Butcher.

As part of our ongoing relationship, Blackpool College will visit the Birtwistles Factory, where they will meet with members of the Senior Management Team and Directors to review, monitor and assess the progress of the young apprentices who are part of the programme.

By working together we will equip individuals with the aptitude and talent we need to strengthen our team and skills base. This will allow young butchers to make a valuable contribution towards making our business stronger, whilst furthering their own personal and professional development.

We’re passionate about addressing the skills gap and investing in young talent. We’d also like to emphasise our belief that a willingness to learn is equally as important as academic grades.
