Statement of Intent
Caring for the environment is our moral and legal duty. MJ Birtwistles & Co Ltd understand that biodiversity conservation is a key priority in not only our business but the health of local and global ecosystems. Diverse species have an intricate link to our environment and its importance therefore need to be protected as much as possible. In recognition of the importance of biodiversity protection, MJ Birtwistles & Co Ltd are dedicated to avoiding harm to local biodiversity indefinitely. We implement suitable actions within our company to minimise and where possible avoid effects on biodiversity. We endeavour to achieve our business success whilst considering our impact on local biodiversity. We plan on this by preserving legal compliance to biodiversity related laws and regulations, remain actively aware of our business outputs and its effects on local biodiversity, and strive for no loss of biodiversity at our operated/owned sites.
Environmental Incidents
It is our policy that all identified environmental incidents will be given the utmost priority and employees are encouraged to promptly report all potential environmental incidents without delay. As business we operate a ‘no blame’ culture, as such no action will be taken against members of staff whose actions may have resulted in an environmental incident. However, the failure to report or cover up a potential environmental incident is viewed seriously. Every incident should be thoroughly investigated, and action should then be taken to ensure that the risk of recurrence is minimised.
Additional Control Measures
• All members of staff will do everything in their power to prevent litter on and around the site.
• Avoid the purchase of unnecessarily environmentally damaging products.
• Ensure all materials are stored carefully to avoid any spillage, leaching, or blowing away.
• Avoid unnecessary mileage, e.g., scheduling visits efficiently, sharing a vehicle and using public transport where appropriate.
