Updated Shelf Life Matrix

As you may be aware there has been significant activity in recent weeks instigated by the Food Standards Agency, requiring procedures and processes to be reviewed across the whole of the meat industry supply chain.

As a result of this activity, Birtwistles Catering Butchers are reviewing a number of our operating procedures and practices, which require changes to ensure that all our products are supplied to the latest FSA guidelines.

One of the major changes, identified so far, is with regard to Shelf Life. As a result, on certain products you may see changes in the delivered life, as we will have less time between order receipt and despatch to process your order. Please refer to our updated Product Shelf Life Matrix.

We appreciate that this may cause some short-term disruption, whilst everybody becomes familiar with the changes. Unfortunately, we believe this is unavoidable, if we are all to comply with our understanding of the latest guidelines from the FSA. We anticipate the greatest impact will be on orders and deliveries around weekends.

In addition, we believe that extended maturation, in particular beef, is under review with the FSA and the previously accepted industry practices may no longer be permissible. We will communicate directly with any affected customers, once we have clarification.

Through these changing and challenging times, all our staff are working tirelessly to resume a normal service. Our passion and commitment to you remains undiminished.
